Highway I/44 Červenohorské sedlo – South
Modernisation of Highway I/44 Červenohorské sedlo – South
Ředitelství silnic a dálnic ČR
09/2014 – 06/2017
The modernisation of the I/44 consisted of an expansion of the carriageway and the addition of necessary safety elements and highway equipment. Its axis goes along the original route, because the highway goes through the most exposed zone of Jeseníky Protected Natural Area. For this reason, it was not possible to establish temporary bypasses. The contract included a gabion retaining wall, the complete modernisation or making of new culverts for draining the land and the repair of a bridge over the River Desná.
The Project in Numbers
- 7,913.50 m Length of modernised section of highway I/44
- 407.93 m Height difference between start and end of modernised section
- 7.15% Maximum lengthwise slope
- 17 m Minimum radius of arc at axis
- 11,465 m3 Volume of gabion retaining walls
- 53 Number of modernised or new culverts
Exceptional Nature of Project
The modernisation of this section of a class I highway in the mountainous environment of Jeseníky Protected Natural Area required, both during preparations and realisation, the solution of a whole number of demanding technical and organisational tasks. The fully functional work was performed under the condition that during construction the highway had to be brought into premature use three times in the winter. The road’s modernisation led to an overall improvement in its technical condition with a long-term benefit for safety, in particular.
