Worth over CZK 2.2 billion, the project will be executed by a consortium consisting of Metrostav and the local company Bertelsen & Garpestad. The two partners are currently building a bypass around the Norwegian city of Kongsberg. "Even though we have been working in Scandinavia since as early as 2006, a contract abroad always carries higher risks. Because of that, all of our foreign ventures are executed with local partners," explained the Metrostav Group's Head of Foreign Operations Václav Soukup. Metrostav's share in the project amounts to approximately 60%.&nbsp; 
Without contracts abroad, Metrostav would face difficulties in finding work for its specialized workforce and machinery. In the Czech Republic, the only large underground project currently under way is the Ejpovice Rail Tunnel.&nbsp;In view of the situation and despite the risks involved, Metrostav has decided to expand to other countries, where the availability of construction projects is greater. At the same time, however, Metrostav faces tough competition from local companies and multinational construction groups. Nonetheless, the current contract shows that the Czech company is able to prevail. Apart from Norway, Metrostav is working on projects in Belarus, Finland, Germany, Iceland and Poland.&nbsp;

Metrostav to Build Bridge over Åstfjorden Fjord in Norway

Pilsen-Doubravka, October 7, 2017 – The boring of the 4,150-meter long northern half of the Ejpovice Tunnel has been completed, as the Viktoria tunnel boring machine re-emerged near Pilsen's borough of Doubravka earlier today. Amid much public interest, Viktoria's cutter head made its way through the exit portal during a bore-through ceremony organized on this occasion. The event was attended by Minister of Transport Dan Ťok, officials from the Railway Infrastructure Administration, the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure, the contractors – Metrostav and Subterra, other partners and guests. 
Apart from improving passenger safety and comfort, one of the objectives of modernizing the rail line that connects the Czech capital and Pilsen, where the section between the latter and Rokycany is an important part, is reducing the travel time to less than one hour. Currently, a train trip between the two cities takes one hour and 35 minutes.
 
"The completion of the Ejpovice Tunnel will shorten the distance that trains have to travel between Prague and Pilsen. Today's bore-through ceremony, which marks the completion of the second half of the tunnel, brings us closer to the day when the travel time between these two important Czech cities will be reduced by more than 30 minutes. Traveling by train is very attractive in today's hectic society, because it allows people to rest or, conversely, catch up on their work," said the Railway Infrastructure Administration's CEO Pavel Surý.&nbsp; 
 
Manufactured by the Herrenknecht Company in Schwanau, Germany, Viktoria weighs approximately 1,800 tons, is 115 meters long, and features a cutter head with a diameter of almost 10 meters. To protect the environment, the heaviest parts of the machine were transported to the Czech Republic by ship. Tunnel-boring machines (TBM) are currently one of the most widely used tunnel construction technologies. Their main advantages include speed and safety. 
 
Previously, boring the southern half of the tunnel took four months longer. The second time around, Metrostav's engineers were familiar with the local conditions and were able to make appropriate preparations. Despite that, the geological makeup in some areas was significantly different from what the workers encountered during the first project stage. 
 
"Boring through the northern tunnel is a historical event for several reasons. It marks the completion of drilling work on the longest rail tunnel in the Czech Republic. The project has been executed using a tunnel boring machine with a cutter head featuring the largest diameter ever used in this country. In addition, we achieved the longest daily advance of 38 meters. Conversely, the other reasons why this project is exceptional are not as optimistic. It is because the end of this project marks the beginning of a period in which no large-profile tunnels will be bored in the Czech Republic, which is a situation unheard of during the last 50 years. A glance into both the distant and recent past shows that as many as 22 projects have been executed in the Czech Republic since the year 2000. They included tunnels for roads, highways, railways and subways. In 2005, for instance, Czech construction workers were working simultaneously on eight underground ventures of this kind. However, we are now entering a period during which neither Metrostav nor any other domestic company will have work for its boring specialists, and we must seek ways of putting to use the highly qualified teams that have undergone costly training. Although we do our best to find contracts abroad, they will not provide enough opportunities for using all the capacity that we have at our disposal. Considering the progress of preparations, other tunnel boring projects will be executed no sooner than many months or, more likely, several years from now. All Czech construction companies would appreciate it if transport infrastructure projects were planned faster," explained Metrostav's CEO Pavel Pilát.
 
Viktoria is a convertible machine, which means that it can function in several modes that allow it to bore through both soft soil and solid rock. The machine creates a completely finished tunnel with walls built from concrete rings composed of seven plus one segments. The rings are reinforced with steel and polypropylene fibers. Each ring is two meters wide and 40 centimeters thick. The rings were made in Dýšina, approximately two kilometers from the construction site. More than two thousand rings were necessary for each of the tunnels.
 
At present, eight safety passageways are being bored between the southern and northern tunnels. Those located in hard spilite rock are drilled using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NRTM), which employs explosives. As a result, Pilsen's inhabitants can appreciate the fact that the two tunnels have been bored using the TBM technology, because relying on the originally considered NRTM method would have caused high noise levels.

The Czech construction company Metrostav has scored another victory in Iceland. Following the Héðinsfjarðargöng and Norðfjarðargöng projects in the northern and eastern parts of the island, respectively, Metrostav will soon start building a 5.6 km long tunnel and a 7.8 km section of road connecting the Dýrafjörður and Arnarfjörður fjords on the sparsely inhabited coast in Iceland's northwest. Metrostav will execute the project in cooperation with a local partner, the company Suðurverk.

Both tunnel portals will be built in the typical windswept Nordic landscape. The roads to&nbsp;Arnarfjörður are closed for most of the winter, during which they are opened only once a month. The local people need tunnels, as they are able to provide a fast and safe link between their municipalities throughout all the seasons. "We trust that the geological conditions will be more favorable for boring than was the case with the previous tunnel projects. According to the plan, construction will begin in May of this year and will be completed in September 2020," said Aleš Gothard, who prepared Metrostav's bid for the project.

The Dýrafjörður tunnel is one of numerous ventures undertaken by Metrostav in Nordic countries. Workers of the largest Czech construction company have completed not only two underground projects in Iceland, but also a number of ventures in Finland, Norway, and Sweden. Metrostav has performed well in Scandinavia despite tough competition and difficult geological conditions. While working in Nordic countries in the past, the Czech tunnel builders have encountered extreme climatic conditions, logistics complications in distant areas, and influxes of massive amounts of icy water during the boring of tunnels.

Metrostav to Build Third Tunnel in Iceland

From March 14 to 17, 2017, the French city of Cannes will host the MIPIM international real estate trade show, which will be attended by over 23,000 guests from more than 90 countries worldwide. The event will include the announcement of the best development projects entered in the prestigious international real estate competition MIPIM Awards 2017. Entries that have advanced to the finals include a project completed by Metrostav a.s. – Residence Sacré Coeur II. This residential development is one of four projects nominated to the final round of the competition in the Best Residential Development category.

This year, a total of 214 development projects from 46 countries worldwide were entered in the MIPIM contest. An 11-member jury, headed by Chairman John Forrester, Chief Executive, EMEA, Cushman & Wakefield, met in Paris at the end of January 2017 to shortlist the four best projects in each of the 11 competition categories. Because of the global renown of the MIPIM Awards, entries in the contest included development projects from Asia, the Pacific Region, North and South America, Africa and Europe.
 

 "The fact that such a technically demanding project as Residence Sacré Coeur II, built by Metrostav, advanced to the finals of a prestigious international competition serves as testimony to the fact that the quality of our work is highly valued by specialists not only in the Czech Republic, but in other countries as well," said Metrostav's CSO Milan Veselský. In its category, Residence Sacré Coeur II will compete against development projects from Brazil, France and Germany. The results will be announced at a gala to be held in the Palais de Festival in downtown Cannes on Thursday, March 17, 2017.

Unique Czech Project in Final Round of MIPIM Awards 2017 International Real Estate Competition

The Czech construction company Metrostav has won its first major contract in Turkey. Its subsidiary <a href="http://www.skupinametrostav.cz/cz/clenove">Metrostav Ankara İnşaat Taahhüt Sanayi Ve Ticaret A.Ş. and the Railway Transport Department of the European Section of the City of </a>Istanbul signed an agreement on January 18, 2017 to build a depot on the Kabataş-Mahmutbey subway line in the Turkish metropolis.

Metrostav's Turkey-based subsidiary secured the contract in a demanding two-round selection procedure. The pre-qualification stage included 41 bidders from the ranks of Turkish corporations and consortiums. In the second round, which included the submission of price bids, Metrostav competed with&nbsp;16 other bidders. Following the expulsion of the bidder who offered the lowest price in the procedure, Metrostav's Turkish subsidiary won, thanks to a bid of TL 88,045,806 (approximately CZK 632 million). The project has been commissioned on the 'design and build' basis. &nbsp;&nbsp;

"The road to winning the contract was in no way easy," said Václav Soukup, Metrostav Group's Head of Foreign Business Operations. "The Czech-based Metrostav has been active in Turkey since 2015, when we founded a joint venture with the company Ankara Inşaat. However, the local regulations only allowed us to bid for the first public contract one year after the subsidiary was established, which means that we could only submit our first proposal in August 2016. I am confident that we will be successful on the Turkish market and that we will record favorable results," added Soukup.

The contract marks another stage in Metrostav's successful expansion to foreign markets. This way, Metrostav takes advantage of its surplus capacity made available as a result of a significant decrease in the number of construction projects being undertaken in the Czech Republic, infrastructure projects in particular. Contracts abroad currently account for one-third or Metrostav's production.

Metrostav to Support Handy Cyklo Maraton as General Partner 
This year, the Handy Cyklo Maraton, a unique project involving the longest cycling marathon in Central Europe, will bear Metrostav's name. A general partnership agreement for the year 2016 was signed in recent days by President of the Metrostav Group Jiří Bělohlav and Heřman Volf, Chairman of the nonprofit organization Journey to the Dream (Cesta za snem). The main purpose of the agreement is to provide support for the cycling event, which will begin at the Prague Castle on 2 August 2016 and will subsequently pass through all 14 of the Czech Republic's regions. The race will take athletes as far as the Bratislava Castle in Slovakia, where they will turn around and head back to Prague. 
"At the Metrostav Group, we subscribe to the concept of equal opportunity for everyone. We regard every person as having an equal value," says Metrostav Group President Jiří Bělohlav. "Metrostav Handy Cyklo Maraton is another proof testifying to that. I wish all participants good luck in their endeavors, and I look forward to the excitement of watching the whereabouts and standing of the Metrostav Team."
Conceived by the handicapped athlete Heřman Volf, the first season of the Handy Cyklo Maraton was held in 2013. It is a fundraising cycling event for mixed teams composed of healthy and handicapped cyclists. Teams must complete the 2,222 km long journey on a relay basis within the time limit of 111 hours. The race goes on nonstop, day and night, and lasts four to five days. In 2015, the event was attended by more than 30 teams with nearly 250 cyclists.
Team members are both healthy and handicapped cyclists. "Participants include wheelchair-bound persons, amputees, visually impaired individuals on tandem bicycles, cyclists with hearing disability, and people suffering from cerebral palsy. We want to show that healthy and handicapped individuals can work together within a team and that their cooperation is, in fact, nothing complicated. All one needs is wanting to do it, putting a team together, and setting out. The race provides a great opportunity for integrating people into society through doing sports, having fun, and enjoying new experiences together. Winning is not the point, even though the participants do compete. Much more important is spreading the idea that we're in it all together," says Heřman Volf, the director of the event who takes part in the race with a team of friends every year. 
The Metrostav Group, led by Metrostav, a.s., is currently the largest construction enterprise in the Czech Republic. Metrostav employees raced in the Handy Cyklo Maraton already in 2015. Long-term emphasis on corporate social responsibility has prompted Metrostav to become the general partner to this year's edition of the event. Metrostav to Support Handy Cyklo Maraton as General Partner 

An agreement for the construction of a 20-kilometer section of the S7 Expressway near Gdansk, Poland worth CZK 9 billion has been signed by Metrostav and GDDKiA, the Polish authority responsible for managing roads and motorways. The largest Czech construction company has been awarded the contract thanks to offering the best terms in a call for bids that included nine other bidders. Metrostav's bid was the best as regards price, warranty terms and completion date – with expected completion of the work by October 2018.
Another factor in securing the deal was the good reputation that Metrostav has earned in the course of executing other projects in Poland, such as the construction of flood-protection installations on the Eastern Neisse, a bridge in Chelmek, and most importantly, the reconstruction of a five-kilometer section of the S8 thoroughfare in Warsaw, including the General Stefan Grot-Rowecki Bridge. The last-mentioned project was completed by a joint Czech-Polish team managed by Radim Čáp, who will oversee the upcoming project in the Pomerania region. "Since Metrostav possesses extensive experience with the construction of road infrastructure, I am convinced that we will complete this project fully in accordance with the plan. The main objective of this undertaking is to build a four-lane expressway, which will improve driving comfort and traffic safety. The new section will be 20.5 kilometers long and will mostly span an area with a low bearing value in the Visla River delta. The project will include a one-kilometer bridge over the Visla worth approximately CZK 1.1 billion, and the application of 11 different technologies that will improve the quality of the subsoil worth roughly CZK 4 billion," explained Čáp.
To facilitate winning additional contracts in Poland, Metrostav has established a local subsidiary, Metrostav Polska Spolka Akcyjna, the managing director of which is Radim Čáp. The firm's first project will be the reconstruction of the Marsa-Žolnierska road in Warsaw worth one billion crowns, for which Metrostav has offered the best conditions.
Metrostav's CEO Pavel Pilát explains, "The situation on the Czech market has been difficult during the past six years. In order to keep together specialized teams that have been built over many years, we are forced to seek opportunities abroad. Although construction work is difficult to export, our current revenues from contracts abroad, excluding subsidiaries, account for more than 20% of all revenues. We are working or have recently worked in such countries as Iceland, Norway, Finland, Belarus, Slovakia, and others." 
The latest result of Metrostav's expansion abroad is the establishment of METROSTAV ANKARA İNŞAAT TAAHHÜT SANAYİ VE TİCARET ANONİM ŞİRKETİ, a joint venture set up by Metrostav in Turkey with the local company Ankara Insaat.

Metrostav Signs Contract to Build S7 Expressway in Poland

By delivering a modernized section of the S8 thoroughfare and the General Stefan Grot-Rowecki Bridge over the Visla River in Warsaw to the project investor, Czech construction workers have completed a challenging project worth approximately five billion crowns that has lasted 26 months. The opening of the facilities for full operation, which took place yesterday at 8:00 p.m., has been welcomed by both drivers and inhabitants of the central area of the Polish capital city. 
Because the project was one of several ventures Metrostav has carried out in Poland, including the construction of a bridge in Chelmek and flood-protection installations on the Eastern Neisse River, a decision has been made to establish a local subsidiary. The recently founded Metrostav Polska Spolka Akcyjna is now busy looking for business opportunities and has, for instance, made a bid for a contract to build a new section of the Warsaw subway. Metrostav has also offered the best price for the modernization of a the S7 Highway between Gdansk and Elblag, which is currently the largest infrastructure project in Poland worth 1.65 billion Polish zloty (approximately 10 billion Czech crowns); the contract is scheduled to be signed in the upcoming weeks. Another promising effort is a bid submitted under a tender for a transport infrastructure construction project worth approximately one billion crowns in the Polish capital. 
The increase in Metrostav's focus on business opportunities abroad comes in the wake of a continuing lack of activity on the Czech construction market. Apart from trade agencies, Metrostav uses subsidiaries established in a number of countries, such as Metrostav Slovakia a.s., Metrostav Deutschland GmbH, and the Austria-based BeMo Tunneling GmbH, which has been a member of the Metrostav Group since 2013. The latest addition to the family of companies of the largest construction company in the Czech Republic is a joint venture in Turkey.
The full name of this joint venture is METROSTAV ANKARA İNŞAAT TAAHHÜT SANAYİ VE TİCARET ANONİM ŞİRKETİ. The other partner is Ankara Insaat, a Turkish firm that has been conducting business for about 30 years, mainly in the road and highway construction segment. Ankara Insaat has teamed up with Metrostav to seek contracts with private investors allowing it to put into use quarries, asphalt plants, finishers, rollers, and other transport infrastructure construction equipment. One year after its establishment, the firm will become eligible to take part in public tenders in Turkey.
The Metrostav Group currently operates in Austria, Belarus, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Norway, Poland, Turkey, Slovakia, and Sweden. Contracts abroad accounted for 30% of the Metrostav Group's total revenues in 2014.



Warsaw Praises Metrostav Construction Workers

An audit conducted by Ernst & Young, s.r.o. has concluded that the internal auditors of the Metrostav Group, the largest Czech construction company, proceed with professional care and diligence, in line with the principles of objectiveness and impartiality set forth in the Professional Practice of Internal Audit of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). Aimed at assessing the quality of Metrostav's internal audit, the review lasted from March to June, and was completed with the awarding of an official certificate. 

E&Y auditors examined the conformity of the Metrostav Group's internal audit to the IIA standards, assessed the degree to which the firm makes use of best internal audit practices, and subsequently identified Metrostav's internal audit-related strengths and weaknesses. The final report concludes that Metrostav's internal audit processes are highly professional, conform to IIA standards, and rely on objective and independent methods that allow them to examine the audited areas with the required degree of detail. In the context of the Czech Republic, Metrostav's internal audit is above-average in terms of effectiveness, and is highly capable of covering all risks and of providing assurance as to the integrity of the firm's operations, thanks to a robust, respected, professional and proactive approach.

Guests of the evening included Zdeněk Škromach, Vicemayor of the Senate of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Čoček, State Secretary and the 1st Deputy Minister of Transport, Petr Konvalinka, Rector of Czech Technical University Prague and others. The aim of the competition is a professional presentation to Czech transport engineering and engineering professions to the public as well as political representation. Works that could enter the competition included transport construction, their sections, individual structures, technology and innovations that haven’t yet been introduced within this competition since 2008 and have been put through final building approval or put into operation within the territory of the Czech Republic before the end of last year. The committee assessed a record breaking number of 46 applications that met the competition’s terms and conditions. They awarded a total of seven titles whereby five of them were in the category of Structure, one in Technologies and one in Innovations. The awards are traditionally awarded without any determined order. The Jury Award is also equivalent to the other awards.

* What was the standard of this year’s 12th year of the Czech Transportation Structure in comparison with previous ones?

	Twelve years in existence establishes quite a nice tradition. Materials for 584 competing works have so far been through the committee’s hands. The diploma for the ‘Title of ČDS&T of the Year’ also has a special place in offices and websites of many building and planning companies and investors. This year of the competition also fulfilled our expectations with regards to both the number and quality of competing works. We are immensely happy about increasing interest from applicants and the media. That is certainly an assurance for us in the coming years.

* There were several nice sounding ‘bests’ heard at the gala evening.

	The committees of both categories that is the nationwide competition of the Czech Transportation Structure, Technology and Innovation of the Year 2014 and the ‘student’ part of the competition For the Best Doctoral or Bachelor Thesis from the Area of Transport and Transport Engineering, assessed a record breaking number of 93 applications. This year of the competition was the most successful one in the competition’s history from this point of view! We are particularly happy about the increasing prestige of the ‘student’ competition, which demonstrates the serious interest of competitors who are recruited from the specialised faculties of six universities as well as the interest of guarantors from commercial companies. Thanks to them, we were able to hand over CZK 209,000 in prizes from the rectors, deans and patrons this year. According to the specialist committee, the quality of entered students’ works has also increased considerably over the latter years. It is evident that this category is fulfilling its main objective in practice, this being a support of interest in study at technical universities and student’s contact with future employers.

* What would you like to appraise or emphasise as director and organiser of the whole event?

	Our company, TOP EXPO CZ, is proud to hold the role of both organiser and promoter of the competition. However, in order to retain the high specialist status of the event, we must co-operate closely with professionals from the area of transportation, building industry and transport telematics. Therefore, I would like to thank all those colleagues who help us to present the competition: the consultancy team of TOP TRANSPORT, specialist guarantors from universities, professional organisations and members of the committees of both competitions. The aforementioned colleagues have been profiled during the history of the competition as a really well co-ordinated team, which now comprises more than two dozen names. This team bestows the competition with logical regulations, sets of rules and last but not least first class specialist prestige.

* Similar events require significant effort and skills to put together a considerable financial amount for its organisation. One can say that the crisis in the segment of transport construction is over and companies understand the positive contribution of similar presentations and gatherings.

	The competition is not just about transport construction. As is also evident from its title, applicants also compete in the category of 	TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION. I believe that it is these two categories where we can help a lot in their subsequent realisation and greater expansion with good publicizing of the projects. Václav Matyáš, President of the Association of Building Entrepreneurs of the Czech Republic, spoke knowledgeably at the gala evening of competition in development of the building industry segment. The building industry as a whole shows certain positive trend but the big problem that seems to be there for the future is in the small preparedness of new constructions. We give broader space to causes at our other specialist events – we can mention the international conference Trends of European Transport that we organised at the premises of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic just before the gala evening. I would like to end optimistically. We generally note increasing interest as well as support by commercial companies, which shows that these segments of our partners also look to the future with positive expectations. We have no other choice but to believe that this development trend will also be supported by the relevant decisions of responsible state organisations and decision making investors in transport construction. I believe it will move that way and that we will be able to look forward to interesting transport construction and to utilise the improving transport infrastructure of the Czech Republic.

* 1. How do you assess the ČDS&T 2014 competition?

Ing. Václav Hořejší, MBA, Director of the Geo-technology Division, ARCADIS CZ a.s., member of the Board
	
	1. I consider this competition to be very beneficial. This event is, in a deluge of negative news from the building industry, one of the few opportunities as to how to inform the general public from another viewpoint.
	2. Our company deals annually with about a thousand larger as well as smaller procurements. Only a close circle of the professional public is informed about the results of our work and therefore we welcome the opportunity to acquaint a broader public with one of the projects as a demonstration of our activity for the client. We naturally appreciate the award considerably. But it is also an award for our field of business. Geo-technology is not often seen by many people as a part of the building industry.
	3. If the Czech Republic is to continue to develop, it cannot do so without transportation constructions. It is up to the state administration as to how many obstacles will be put forward within the total process. So far there are plenty of these in an imaginary way. Preparation time for those individual buildings and after all also the realisation of many only proves it is so. Still, I remain an optimist and believe that we will become closer to for example the British way of preparation and management of large projects. I tell each potential client that our services only have a meaningful point for him if we can reduce the risks for his project or to solve an already existing one. Both are also connected with the price that the client eventually pays for the construction. The long term relationship we have with many of our client’s only shows that they are aware of that. The situation with public procurements where, in every competition we de facto hold the position of a ‘no name’ company, seems to be from another world. The cheapest services are not subsequently the most suitable ones.

Ing. David Krása, Managing Director, METROPROJEKT Praha a.s.

	1. Successful meeting, traditionally good organisation – I like going to Bethlehem Chapel, I like jazz. There were interesting projects introduced. Myself, I was mainly attracted by those that were done in co-operation between planning engineers and architects.
	2. Everybody is happy to show off with an award from a competition that has prestige and tradition.
	3. That is really a broad question. I see it optimistically. Progress cannot be stopped in transport either. I would welcome continual sustainable development in Czech. The leaps when there is an effort to build everything immediately (Spain, Greece for EU founds) will cause a short term effort followed by hard fall back to reality.

Oto Hejmala, Camea, spol. s. o.

	1. We really do esteem the competition and hope that we will have the opportunity to take part over the next years.
	2. We consider the option to present projects via a prestigious competition significant appreciation of our work. We are glad that we managed to succeed in this really competitive environment.
	3. Transportation constructions are one of the large topics of the future. With regards to quick technology development and a constant increasing of the number of cars on the roads mainly increases the importance of intelligent transport systems (ITS) and mainly those systems that provide road safety.
(CAMEA was presented with the Award of the Company for the Development of Road Transport for the project of a Comprehensive System of Travel Times within the Area of the Capital City of Prague.).

Dana Crkvová, Communications and Promotions Manager, Eltodo, a.s.

	1. The competition was well organised and we were given all the information necessary for our participation. The final social event that covered the evaluation was also at an exceedingly good level.
	2. This competition provides companies with abundant space for presenting their activities and it is also good to get to know other inspirational projects. We are really pleased that it was our project that was awarded. A large team of specialists from our company worked on it and the award really pleased them. It might also be good to include a ‘press conference’ in the programme so that the awarded companies could answer the audience’s answers regarding technical solutions within the framework of the entered work etc.

Ing. arch. Aleš Krtička, Company Director, ATELIER TSUNAMI

	1. The competition registered almost 50 entered constructions of all types and categories. That meant that the competition was hard and equal and that the committee had a difficult task. The entered constructions have confirmed increasing standards of transport constructions and technologies in the Czech Republic. A significant contribution represented the competition of student work, which shows increased interest in this important building segment as well as the fact that there is a new generation of erudite specialists thanks to excellent pedagogues.
	2. I consider the presentation of our projects through the competition to be a great opportunity for introducing results of work from our project studio to both a professional as well as laic public. Measuring our strengths in a quality competition allows us to compare as well as to look a little bit ‘under the lid’ of our colleagues from other offices. Interest shown by journalists and representatives of building companies and investors in progress and results of the competition becomes a unique platform for presenting our work. Awarding our project is a significant reference of unique cooperation of an enlightened investor – the town of Náchod, in particular its Mayor Jan Birke –, quality and qualified supplier – M-silnice a. s. – and the whole team of our planning engineers – Atelier Tsunami s. r. o. The awarded construction of the Bus Station Náchod shows the co-operation of architects, building engineers and structural engineers and, of course, transport specialists.
	3. Transport construction will, in future, no doubt form a significant building segment, whether it will be about the new construction of motorways, roads, railway lines and bridges or quality maintenance of the existing operated infrastructure. I expect new technologies and improved work organisation and effectiveness at building sites in order to reduce the impact of building work on the public. From us architects and planning engineers, I expect a conceptual and innovative approach leading to economy of the planned constructions that wouldn’t be to the detriment of their technical solution nor visual qualities.

Eduard Palíšek, Managing Director, Siemens Czech Republic.

	1. The competition already enjoys a high level. Quality of the awarded participants is guaranteed by a qualified and independent committee.
	2. Siemens considered innovation as one of their key values. That’s why I am glad that we can introduce our innovative project this way to both a professional and laic public. We really appreciate the award for our multi-system universal engine Vectron. The committee appraised its innovative modular concept that predestines it for a highly effective operation in local as well as international railway lines.
	3. Transport constructions and with them associated technologies are the backbone of every economy. Therefore, it is really good that this area is also being revived after the recession period. This will, no doubt, have a positive influence on other areas of the Czech economy.
(Siemens was awarded the title in the C – Innovations category for their interoperable engine Vectron.)

Ing. František Fryš, Director of a branch plant Dopravní stavby JIH, SWIETELSKY stavební s.r.o.
	
	1. I assess the competition very positively. Everything that presents the building industry positively needs to be appreciated and appraised.
	2. It is one of very few opportunities to introduce work results within the building industry. It is not so common today that someone would be praised (the media prefers choosing negative news and expects that they are what the public requires…). So, it is necessary to present positively in front of a professional public that can certainly assess the quality of projects and constructions as well as in front of a so called laic public. We really appreciate the award.
	3. After several years I see the future of transport constructions in a hopeful light again. We need them and after all we do need to get the quality of the infrastructure on the level with the ‘advanced world’ one day, don’t we?
(SWIETELSKY stavební s. r. o., o. z. Dopravní stavby JIH, was awarded with the Award of the Association of Building Entrepreneurs of the Czech Republic for the relocation of the II/156 and II/157 roads – IV. stage.)

Ing. Milan Veselský, Business Manager, Metrostav a. s.

	1. Metrostav is a traditional participant in this competition, whose standards keep increasing. Not only the parameters of the entered works but also the expert competence of the committee. Respectability of the event is, last but not least, also contributed to by the Bethlehem Chapel environment where the awards are handed out. We are pleased that the increasing reputation of the competition also increases the prestige of the awarded projects and interest from a broader public and the media.
	2. We entered five constructions in this last year of competition that was crowned by a dozen successful sequels and another one, where we participated as members of the realisation association, was designed by a planning engineer. In the ČDS&T 2014 competition there was awarded the construction of a footbridge for pedestrians over the Elbe River, including a connection to the cycleway Čelákovice, which can also ‘show off’ with the SFDI 2014 Award and an award from the Road Railway magazine for structural detail. The assessors also assessed the way of dealing with the wide riverbed of the Elbe River and connecting the town of Čelákovice with a recreational area and the innovative utilisation of high strength concrete.
	3. We were also pleased that four of our other projects were awarded in specialist categories. It is a positive assessment of work done by us, contractors, as well as other participants to a construction, the entitled planning engineers and investor/s. It is also a significant reference for Metrostav with regards to future tenders. Smart investors don’t choose a contractor just by price but want to know what the applicant for the job has already built and to what quality and standard. And the award in the ČDS&T competition is one of the proofs of their building abilities and indirectly also a guarantee that the constructed work will serve its users reliably and for a long time to come.
