Characteristics
The builders demolished the original weir spillway and built a new one made of oak beams and granite filling. They installed a new weir crown and a breakaway edge made of granite stones, and created a stone area at the bottom of the weir. The work also included the installation of permanently fitted footings for temporary barriers on the concrete front of the weir, including the supply of mobile parts.
Project in numbers
- 320 mApproximate length of the inclined weir
- 2,100 mTotal length of oak beams used
- 1,155 m2Area fitted with granite slabs
Uniqueness of construction project
The builders used original technology as much as possible. They had the oak harvested in winter made into rafts, which were then soaked in water for over a month. After being towed to the construction site, the beams remained submerged until assembly and were sprinkled with water afterwards until reflooding. During construction, workers used floating excavators and cranes, as well as pusher boats to bring and remove materials. The reconstruction finished nine months ahead of schedule and won one of the top prizes at the Water Management Construction Project of the Year 2023 awards.
