Characteristics
The most demanding part of the reconstruction in the heritage‑listed Baroque buildings involved the roof trusses, the façades and the original brewery cellars with their exposed cast‑iron pillars. A footbridge over the Botič stream now links the new residential district, with its small square and three restored brewery chimneys, to the surrounding area.
Project in numbers
- 1694Establishment of a brewery in Nusle
- 20,000 sqmArea of the reconstructed part of the Nusle Brewery
- 125Number of apartments in the reconstructed part of the Nusle Brewery
Uniqueness of the construction project
The entire redevelopment was carried out in cooperation with heritage specialists and with an emphasis on preserving as many original elements as possible. The reconstruction proved highly challenging, as the actual conditions differed in every respect from the project’s assumptions. Historians were rewarded with the discovery of a hundred‑year‑old capsule placed in a wall by a Nusle bricklayer during an earlier repair of the building.
